Shiori Ito – NO MORE Ambassador

Shiori Ito is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, journalist, writer, and advocate for survivors of gender-based violence. As the co-founder of Hanashi Films, she has dedicated her career to exposing systemic injustice and amplifying the voices of those impacted by sexual violence and discrimination.
Her groundbreaking work has earned global recognition. In 2020, TIME magazine named her one of the 100 Most Influential People in the world. Through her films, writing, and public speaking, Shiori continues to drive urgent conversations around gender, power, and justice on a global scale.
Her debut feature documentary, Black Box Diaries, premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and has since been screened in over 50 countries. The film, which confronts the personal and political dimensions of sexual violence, received a Peabody Award and was nominated for both an Oscar and a BAFTA.
In her bestselling memoir, Black Box (2017), Shiori shares her own story as a survivor, challenging a culture of silence and inspiring systemic change in Japan and beyond. The book won the Free Press Association of Japan’s Best Journalism Award and has been translated into ten languages. Her follow-up, Swim Naked (2023), explores themes of resilience and healing.
Shiori’s journalism has appeared in outlets such as the BBC, Al Jazeera, and The Economist. She was named One Young World's Journalist of the Year in 2022 and has been recognized by Newsweek Japan as one of the “100 Most Respected Japanese People in the World.”
